Maxx Morando Early Life
Maxx Morando was born on November 16, 1998, in Los Angeles, California. He grew up in a city with a major music and entertainment industry, and he developed an interest in music from a young age. Unlike many celebrity partners, Morando has generally kept details about his childhood and family away from the public spotlight.
Morando began playing drums when he was young and eventually became involved in the Los Angeles music scene. His early musical development was centered on rock and alternative music rather than mainstream pop. He also learned to play guitar, giving him a broader understanding of songwriting and musical arrangement.
By his teenage years, Morando was already performing professionally. His early involvement with The Regrettes gave him experience playing live shows and recording music, establishing the foundation for the career he would later build with Liily and through his production work.
Maxx Morando Education
Morando has kept most details about his formal education private. Public profiles have reported that he and other members of Liily met while attending music school, but extensive information about his specific school, degree or formal qualifications has not been widely published.
His musical education appears to have been strongly connected to practical performance. Learning drums, performing with bands and working in recording environments allowed him to develop skills that eventually extended beyond percussion into songwriting and music production.
Rather than following a highly publicized academic path, Morando built his career through hands-on experience in Los Angeles’s music community. His work as a drummer eventually developed into songwriting and production, allowing him to contribute to records in several different ways.
Maxx Morando Career
The Regrettes
Maxx Morando began gaining professional attention as the drummer for The Regrettes, a Los Angeles punk rock band. He joined the group as a teenager and remained with the band from 2015 to 2018.
During his time with The Regrettes, Morando gained experience performing in clubs and on larger stages. The band also appeared on television, including a performance on Conan in 2017.
His years with The Regrettes were important because they gave him an early professional foundation as a touring and recording drummer. They also connected him to the Los Angeles alternative music scene in which his later band, Liily, would emerge.
Liily
In 2016, Morando became associated with Liily, a Los Angeles alternative rock and post-punk band. The group was formed by young musicians from the city’s music community and developed a sound influenced by rock, punk and post-punk.
Morando serves as the band’s drummer. Liily released its debut single “Toro” in 2018 and followed it with the EP I Can Fool Anybody in This Town in 2019.
The band later released its debut studio album, TV or Not TV, expanding its presence in the alternative music scene. Morando’s work with Liily has allowed him to continue performing while also developing his songwriting and production abilities.
Songwriting and Production
Morando has increasingly moved beyond drumming into songwriting and music production. His professional profile lists writing and production credits for several recordings, demonstrating that his role in music is not limited to performing behind a drum kit.
One of his most prominent collaborations has been with Miley Cyrus. He co-wrote and produced “Handstand” and produced “Violet Chemistry” on Cyrus’s 2023 album Endless Summer Vacation. The album received a Grammy nomination, giving Morando a production credit on a major pop release.
His production work has continued to expand. He has received credits on songs including “Psycho Killer” and “ATTENTION,” while also continuing to write and perform with Liily.
Work With Miley Cyrus
Morando and Cyrus have also developed a professional relationship alongside their romantic relationship. His involvement in Cyrus’s music has given him an opportunity to work across alternative rock and mainstream pop.
On Cyrus’s later projects, Morando took on a larger creative role. His contributions have included songwriting, production and other elements of the creative process surrounding her music.
Their collaboration is particularly notable because Morando began his career in alternative rock rather than as a mainstream pop musician. His production work has therefore allowed him to bring elements of his musical background into Cyrus’s recordings.
Fashion and Visual Creativity
Morando has interests beyond conventional music performance. He has also been associated with fashion design and visual creativity, reflecting the broader artistic environment surrounding Liily and his work with Cyrus.
His creative interests have included clothing, illustration and music-related visual projects. This has contributed to his public image as a multidisciplinary creative rather than simply a drummer.
