Kyle Juszczyk Early Life
Kyle Patrick Juszczyk was born on April 23, 1991, in Medina, Ohio. He grew up in the Medina area and attended Cloverleaf High School in Lodi, Ohio, where he established himself as a promising football player. His athletic ability eventually earned him an opportunity to play college football at Harvard, an unusual path for a player who would later become one of the NFL’s most recognizable fullbacks.
At Cloverleaf, Juszczyk developed the physicality and versatility that later became central to his professional career. Rather than following the traditional route of playing football at a major football factory, he chose Harvard, where he was able to combine athletics with a demanding academic environment.
His nickname “Juice” became closely associated with his identity in football. At 6 feet 2 inches and 235 pounds, he possesses the size and strength needed for blocking while retaining enough athleticism to contribute as a receiver. The 49ers officially list him at 6-foot-2 and 235 pounds.
Kyle Juszczyk Education
Juszczyk attended Cloverleaf High School before enrolling at Harvard University in 2009. His time at Harvard was notable not only for his football development but also for his academic achievement. He studied economics while playing for the Harvard Crimson.
On the field, he played tight end and H-back and quickly became one of Harvard’s most productive offensive players. He finished his college career with 125 receptions for 1,576 yards and 22 touchdowns, leaving Harvard as the school’s all-time leader in all three categories at the time.
His college career brought considerable recognition. He earned First-Team All-Ivy League honors three times, was a two-time FCS All-American and received Associated Press First-Team All-America recognition as a senior in 2012. His combination of academic and athletic achievement helped distinguish him before he entered the NFL.
Kyle Juszczyk Career
Kyle Juszczyk was selected by the Baltimore Ravens with the 130th overall pick in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He spent his first four NFL seasons in Baltimore before signing with the San Francisco 49ers as a free agent in 2017.
His early professional career established him as an unusually versatile fullback. In Baltimore, he contributed as a blocker and receiver, with his 2015 season standing out statistically after he recorded career highs at the time of 41 receptions, 321 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns. He earned his first Pro Bowl selection in 2016.
After joining San Francisco in 2017, Juszczyk became an increasingly important component of Kyle Shanahan’s offense. Shanahan’s system frequently moves him around the formation, allowing him to block for running backs, line up as a receiver, motion before the snap and create matchup problems for opposing defenses. His role is therefore not fully reflected by conventional fullback statistics.
Juszczyk’s individual honors have been extensive. He has earned 10 consecutive Pro Bowl selections, including nine consecutive selections before the 2025 season and another selection following the 2025 campaign. He was named AP First-Team All-Pro in 2022 and 2023 and AP Second-Team All-Pro in 2024. The 49ers also gave him the Bill Walsh Award in 2017 for representing the team’s standard of professional excellence.
He has also been a significant contributor to San Francisco’s postseason teams. During Super Bowl LIV, he recorded a 15-yard touchdown reception against the Kansas City Chiefs. His ability to function as both a blocker and receiving option has helped make him one of the longest-serving and most trusted players in Shanahan’s offensive system.
In March 2025, the 49ers re-signed Juszczyk to a two-year contract through the 2026 season. The deal followed a brief period in which San Francisco had released him before the two sides reached an agreement on a new contract worth a reported $8 million.
The 2026 season marks another year of his unusually long NFL career. The 49ers retained him on their initial 2026 roster, describing him as a cornerstone of the ground game after his 10th consecutive Pro Bowl selection and another First-Team All-Pro honor in 2025.
